EXCERPT
I’d misjudged my mileage, and with no gas gauge, I’d had no way of telling when I’d run out of gas. I’m luckily able to roll my bike to a slow and steady stop off on the shoulder of the road. I shake my head, wanting to give myself a good hard kick for not being more careful. I glance around as I hop off. Figures I am surrounded by nothing but woods and, my guess, swamps, and am nearly twenty miles away from any town. This isn’t exactly what I had in mind when I said I would make use of the tent in my saddlebags. I let out an exasperated sigh as I undo the chinstrap to my helmet, yanking it off my head, and let my hair fall around my shoulders. I bite down on my lip and contemplate. I can’t leave my bike here on the side of the road. I can’t walk 20 twenty miles and back just for gas with it already so dark out, either. I have no choice. I’ll walk my bike into the woods and set up camp. People do this all the time, right? No big deal. It’s not like the big bad wolf will jump out and get me.
I gaze into the woods. Darkness has already fallen over the trees. They stand silent and still, as even the animals, it seems, have all gone quiet for the night. I laugh off the thought of the big bad wolf. I guess it’s alligators I have to watch for down here. Or, is it crocodiles? I shiver, put on a brave face, and straddle my bike once more. It’ll take all my strength to waddle it down the ditch and into the woods over the uneven terrain. I figure a short way off the side of the road and into the woods and I should be fine. Enough to be out of the line of traffic, but not enough to get myself terribly lost.
As I wiggle the bike down the small slope, I begin to exert myself on the flat, but rough terrain as I push the bike forward, throwing my petite body into it as much as I can. I grunt as I give one more strong push forward. The bike lurches along slowly as my helmet clangs against the already scratched black paint. I groan, aggravated with myself more than ever for letting the gas tank get bone dry.
“What in the hell are you doing?”
I stop dead in my tracks. I hadn’t heard a single footstep, not even a twig. I swallow hard and throw myself off the bike, flipping out the kickstand as I do.
I turn slowly to see a rugged looking man staring hard at me. His dark washed jeans are splattered with dirt and debris at the bottom, suggesting that he has been romping in the woods beyond. His heavy boots are caked in a layer of thick mud that’s starting to dry in certain spots. He places his hands on his hips, making his leather jacket open to display a well-fitted tee shirt; defined chest muscles are visible even under the moonlight. His gray eyes shine and shimmer under the light of the full moon as they glare at me in an almost threatening way. No, not threatening. Warning me of something, and somehow worried. His brown hair is styled fairly nice, which is surprising considering the five o’clock shadow on his face. He’s much larger than me. Well, almost everyone is larger than me, but he must be over 6 feet tall. Huge, compared to my tiny 5’5” frame.

Sam Wentworth was running from the man in her life, she ran out of gas, and ran smack into a new man…Ethan. Deciding to trust him she goes with him only to end up being taken hostage by her ex. Ethan and his six brothers make it their job to find her and return her to live with them. What was the secret? Where would going with them get her? Was Ethan her big bad wolf?

Loved this book, this is the second time I have been introduced to a retold fairy tale and I really enjoy them. It’s a new habit for me, I will keep on reading these stories, it’s addicting. The story more than held my attention as I read it, couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. I want to thank the author for allowing me to read and review her book. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Review Blast: Benjamin McTish Series

Title- Benjamin McTish and the Door Through the Grandfather Tree
Series- Benjamin McTish Book  #1
By- June M. Pace
Genre-  YA/Fantasy

Blurb-
The McTish Series is an explosive adventure through a dimensional Gateway into another world, a world of beauty and magic, Coranim...a land of insight, thought and possibilities, that sits beneath the enchanted Gilley Forest.

There is local legend in the small town of Grandlochcheshire that has been passed down for a 100 years about the mysterious disappearance of the Chickering family, that trails on the coat tails of the equally shocking abduction of the Skeffington Union Rails heirs, Connor and Shelbe. The circumstances that follow this notorious tale enter into the modern world of Benjamin and his two best mates.

One day Benjamin watches from behind the Rhododendron as a mysterious little woman steps out of a taxi in front of the cream colored house with the forest green trim next door, and in one synchronistic moment their eyes lock and a series of visual snippets of unfamiliar events unfold in his mind’s vision. His razor sharp sixth sense allows him the freedom to explore the extrasensory messages coming at him like a derailed freight train.
And when Benjamin finds a peculiar relic of a key in his grandmother’s garden shed, he could never know his world was about to change forever.

Annabel and Mathilda, two sisters who have moved to Grandlochcheshire from America, have become more than mere friends to Benjamin, they have all become the three Muskydeers (Mathilda’s mispronounced version of Musketeers, which was a huge laugh and of course it stuck), as they are plunged head first into this curious journey.

In the Gilley Forest they discover that the path they have chosen is inundated with many obstacles as well as intrigue.  Alliances are made with the Forest clan of Gnomes known as the Set, and with the aid of the Vila sisters, Sethina and Morel, as well as some surprising and unexpected allegiances, the three friends take on the test that is the Grandfather Tree.  They must stay on the pre ordained Path of Prophecy, whose ancestry comes from the home of the oldest living beings on the planet, the Elves of the Darmon  However, this is no easy task for the Muskydeers as they have the foulest of sorcery hunting their every move, the powerful dark beauty, Tar Vigorn.

This ruthless Queen is not without humor however and loves a good game of cat and mouse, as long as she’s the cat. With her biting sense of sarcasm and calculated taunting, she knows just how to unnerve Benjamin. Her phantom army known as the Blunt are searching for a way into the Grand Tree and will stop at nothing to infiltrate the pristine world beneath his giant roots.

Once in Coranim the children make the acquaintance of the greatest Medicine Elder alive, Esmerelda Fet.  A most powerful Light Sorceress with a brazen in your face attitude, and a thick Irish brogue, who guides the trio on their Path of destiny.  “All tings be possible ya wee chil’ren, if’en ya put yer mind to it!  Thar be nothin ya can’t accomplish.  Ya just need ta be placin all yer carage inta tha middle of yer core whar yer Spirit shines...an ya can do anythin! Ha!”

Filled with many wonders, and home to the Fet clan of Gnomes, Coranim is a magical world of art, sound, thought, invention and discovery....and home to the World Library of Identity, with none other than Dunston Tibbitts at the helm.
Every being on the planet has a book dedicated to the entirety of their lives.  Dunston reports to Benjamin, “according to what I see here now, this very minute, whatever it is that you are seeking will show itself today and change your Path immediately.  It will put you into a whole new dynamic as they say.”

What could alter the overpowering trajectory Benjamin has followed to Coranim?  How will it change his life?
Find out as our three heroes delve into the mystic, as well as their own inner character, as you watch from the edge of your seat.

Benjamin and his friends find themselves on a ridiculously amazing ride through all that is the World of Coranim. And always close by is their mentor and guide, Esmerelda Fet, the endearing but brash Light Sorceress and the most accomplished Medicine Elder alive.

The Wickcliff sisters receive the utmost in unique lessons in the Land of the Winter Light from three very idiosyncratic Wizards, while Benjamin finds himself confronting the most elusive individual yet, an Aboriginal Gnome Wizard known as Locke, who is able to tweak at Benjamin’s psyche every chance he gets.

This journey broadens in scope with the addition of two family members who find themselves in the Gilley Forest in search of the missing children. After their shocking encounter with the Dark Queen in her battle of monumental proportions with the Villa, we find Claire and Emmagene traveling with the Elves to their home in the Darmon. However, all is not as it seems...nor is it ever, dear reader....there are a few surprises yet in store for you as you delve into the deep waters of Coranim and the ever mysterious story of a family that appears to have some very deep secrets of their own.

We step back into the fantastic world of Benjamin McTish, who with his friends Mathilda and Annabelle are on a journey of a lifetime. Benjamin has seen a picture that someone painted of his mother and increases his curiosity into what is happening. They all know there is a battle brewing, after all they saw a little of it before they escaped through the Grandfather tree. With plenty of twists and turns, old issues flaring up again, the kids are definitely on a race against time. But against just what and how they can help is being learned only now. With magic galore and fantastic things all around them they again head off into the unknown to help save the world.
Without a doubt June Pace is writing a tale of an epic journey of discovery; self, family and otherwise, nothing is ever just as it seems. The story never fails to awe and the imagery is still so clear you can see the sights along with the characters. The fear they feel is as real as if you were standing there with them. A wonderfully written tale that I highly recommend, get this book and read it with your children, it will provide wonderful hours of imagination with them. Reading is the best way to teach your kids the magic of a book. So follow along with this series, more to come, and let the magic enter your heart. I thank June Pace for allowing me to read and review for her, it is indeed one of my greatest joys. Another 5 star book!

June lives with her soon to be husband and best friend Ray, with his youngest son and their two dogs, seven chickens and two ducks, in Santa Cruz Ca.  Ray’s two older kids live respectively in LA and San Francisco.
June spends her days writing and sometimes painting her well known series of Rock n Roll icons.  June and Ray are designing a line of unique, one of a kind, hand-made furniture/accessories, coming out the winter of 2013, Madrona Rust.
This series of work, the McTish characters, are a part of June in every sense of the word.  “This work brings a deep sense of joy and passion for me in a very profound way, like nothing else that I do.”

At first glance Sianna seems to be a homeless girl, not true she has family but things haven’t been great. As she moves into her aunt’s house she is recruited to help her aunt with a project. The thing is as she helps with this project life gets really interesting. Something happens that night that is well impossible. A black dragon drops a bomb outside of Newtimber and all the residents are changing. By changing we are talking; dragons, sirens, trees, wolves, Pegasus, almost anything that we have heard myths about.  What on earth is going on? Will Sianna find answers to fix the situation? Will she be strong enough to deal with it all?
I very much enjoyed this book, I found it to be a fascinating take on the paranormal world. Nicely written and easy to fall into and become a part of the action, I enjoyed my time in Newtimber. I would highly recommend this book to lovers of the paranormal from about age 13 up. I will most definitely be reading more from Karen Hoover as I like her style of writing. Many thanks to the author for allowing me to read and review her book, I am excited for the next one!

Karen E. Hoover has loved the written word for as long as she can remember. Her favorite memory of her dad is the time he spent with Karen on his lap, telling her stories for hours on end. Her dad promised he would have Karen reading on her own by the time she was four years old … and he very nearly did. Karen took the gift of words her dad gave her and ran with it. Since then, she’s written two novels and reams of poetry. Her head is fairly popping with ideas, so she plans to write until she’s ninety-four or maybe even a hundred and four.

Inspiration is found everywhere, but Karen’s heart is fueled by her husband and two sons, the Rocky Mountains, her chronic addiction to pens and paper, and the smell of her laser printer in the morning.

Blog Tour: Heart Of War

Title- Heart of War
Series- Lady & Knight Chronicles #1
By- C.L. Foster & E.R. Rada
Publication Date- June 6th, 2014
Genre-  Historical Romance

Blurb-
The Hundred Years War rages around Adalira Mortimer's life and country, but she is not what is expected of a Lady; instead of dresses and tea, she dreams about weapons and war.

Bastian Kyros is not typical royalty. Being a warrior is in his blood, not paperwork and peace-keeping.

Tradition drives their families. She is expected to don her manners and win a worthy husband, and he is expected to drop his sword and do what's right for the sake of his family's name, land, and future.

Their chance meeting at the party of the season may offer them both the chance to find what they desire. Brought together by their longing for battle, their greatest fight may be in winning over their families and conquering their own pride.

A lull in battle does not mean there is peace. The greatest of wars are fought in the heart.

*** Kj Says ***
Lady Adalira is a strong willed women who believes in being trained to defend herself, indeed is as good as any knight that her father has fighting for him. Bastion Kyros is a soldier steeped in tradition and really doesn’t want to follow his parent’s wishes of marriage and settling down. When they meet as a masquerade ball Bastion is entranced by Aldira and decides to write her a letter. She is very happy with the letter writing and keeps it going as they slowly get to know each other through words. Becoming friends through these letters they decide to meet at a tournament, at the last moment everything goes wrong and a misunderstanding comes between them. Will they settle it out to go ahead with their relationship? Will they just forget each other?
Quite honestly this is the best historical romance I have read in a very long time. CL Foster and E. R. Rada write seamlessly as they weave a magical story around the reader. I simply slipped into this story and became a part of the surroundings, feeling very at home. I want more, more, more!! Please? I highly recommend this book to lovers of romance, it has all the makings of a true classic. My thanks to the authors for writing this awesome story that I will treasure forever.

 C.L. Foster-
CL is eclectic, geeky, positive, nature-loving and completely non-"normal" (just the way she likes to be). She has been a fan of literature since she was a small child and finally decided to take her dreams (both waking and sleeping!) and do something positive with them.

CL has lived all over the world and has a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, minoring in Psychology and Forensics. Which means you don't want to cross her because she knows how and where to hide a body so it's never found! She proudly admits to hearing voices in her head, but at times, her characters' impromptu visits can be rude and annoying. Thankfully, she has adequate patience for their shenanigans and can out ninja them any day of the week.

CL's voice is boisterous, sassy, and not finished yet! Stay tuned!

E.R. Rada-
E.R. Rada is a NY native who's mind is in a constant battle with reality and fiction. He's been penning his tales while expressing his inner most demons and heartfelt wishes since he was able to rhyme.

Poetry and fantasy are his weapons of choice as his inner-most wish to be a dragon-riding, sword-wielding warrior has yet to come to fruition. E.R. knows there is no time limit on greatness, so he continues to float on his constant state of flux; learning, growing, and improving as time goes on.

E.R. is a battle worn soldier who will quickly compare apples and oranges, simply because he's told he can't. Never one to conform, he embraces his nerdy/geek tendencies and is well known for creating new and interesting ways to do things (see: stubborn/the hard way). In doing things his own way, he has earned his way through life with plenty of battle scars, knowledge, and memories.
